A nonce name and title used to someone who is making a show of having religious faith in AngloSaxon Attitudes, by Angus Wilson. The woman has just said: ‘You and I, we are different, Mr Middleton; we are willing to be old, we are ready to go.’ The man concerned says to himself: ‘You speak for yourself, old Madame Sanctimonious.’
